Just to clarify 1st Amendment for those who don't understand

Although I am not an advocate of lawmakers overturning courts decisions I would like to point out a common mistake made while referring to the seperation of church and state. This phrase is found no where in the 1st amemdment or for that matter any other founding document of this great country. This phrase was inventented by people that don't want any reference pertaining to God anywhere. It is being used to supress religious freedom in our country. This freedom is found in our constitution:Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...

Uh, John, what do you think that language of the 1st Amendment •means• if not separation of church and state?

That phrase — separation of church and state, sometimes referred to as a "wall of separation between church and state" — appears •many• times in the writings of the authors of the Constitution, especially Jefferson and Monroe. There's no real doubt what they meant by it.

If you want to understand the true intent of those who wrote the Constitution, then I suggest that you stop listening to right-wing theocratic propaganda and read the Federalist Papers and the commentaries on them.

You think that there is a suppression of religious freedom in this country . . . you must be on drugs.

Religion has gotten out of hand in that preacher and priests are dictating the political positions that their congregations are to follow from the pulpit. Preachers and priests should preach religion and not politics . . . unless they want to give up the churches’ tax exempt status.

Politicians should stay out of religion, and preachers and priest should stay out of politics when acting as preachers and priests.
