As he joined the House debate on the assault-weapons ban, Cunningham might have spurred some of his colleagues to consider another ban — one on retired fighter pilots buzzing around town with military firepower.
“I have flown an F-14 over this Capitol with a 20-millimeter gun that could shoot 6,000 rounds a minute,” Cunningham announced. “I could disintegrate this hall in a half-a-second burst. Yet the gentleman from New York, (Rep. Charles Schumer, a sponsor of the bill) would tell me that I can’t carry a 10-shot .22.”
